So more stuff from the program abroad came today. Apparently the computers they have do have the internet now, as opposed to what the earlier materials [reprinted from last year's info] said. That's nice at least. Oh, and we got a roster [not sure if that's the proper word, but it will do] of the students in the program. I started flipping through and wondered if something funny was going on, at first. Then I wondered if someone had just sorted the list for some reason other than alphabetically; no, no, I checked and it was still alphabetical. The same thing happened on the second page. And the third. Finally, on the fourth page, there were guys. Yeah, that's right. A total of fifty people are participating in this program. A total of eight men. [And don't forget kids - it is a theater program, after all. Think they'll all be straight?] [[Turns out I miscounted at first on the totals and on the man count. The boys pointed out the total being wrong; only ten names on the first page instead of twelve. And I just recounted guys, since I don't think they could evenly split us into rooms with seven, since there are no singles. I'm fairly certain there won't be even any mixed appar...er, flats, and surely no mixed rooms. Well, not by default, at least.]] Hanging with the boys was damn nice. Maybe I went a bit much, as I can sometimes, but it did feel like old times. I know Matt meant it in a bad way when he said he felt like he was back in high school, but I felt some of that and in a good way. No, not just because I was being dirty, which is always fun for me. [You know, I didn't even know I was missing it. Funny how that can happen.] Some of the sense of a close bunch of friends was back and there and just good to feel. Not that there hasn't been any; we're all friends of course. But people aren't there always [even me, having skipped the regular Wednesday night fun times this week], and there are of course stresses [as in any group], and drifting and what have you. We shared stories [well, Steve did anyways], and it's been awhile since that has really happened. Not that this was what it once was, but even that little bit, even without everyone there for it, was something. I guess I'm just trying to say it was great. Not exactly like old times, nor should it be necessarily, just good, that's all. Seems like progress will be happening on making our game tomorrow night. The visit from the people from International at work went really well. Everyone working got reward points [they have a goofy name, but it's not important], enough for the equivalent of two meals. I got a little less than half that for showing up early for work that day to be sure to be ready for them. Kickass. [I was dumb and left some points in my pocket which went through the wash along with my timeout receipt for that day the other day, though. Grr. I don't think it was too too many though, or I hope not. And then I left my wallet in today. Everything seems to be mostly ok with that thought.] Did I mention that a middle aged couple stopped in yesterday and the woman looked vaguely familiar? I didn't say anything, but the woman asked me if I was Peter after I finished taking their order. I said yes, and she said she had seen my picture up on the way in [instant photo for employee of the month and all]. Turns out they're the parents of a kid I went to grade school with and haven't seem since. We just chatted very briefly while I was putting their order together; thankfully it was pretty slow right then. I ended saying that according to the prophecy we all wrote in grade school, next year was the year we all would get together again. I'm pretty certain none of the prophecy will have come true; perhaps people will be on their way to those places, but we set things pretty far advanced for kids who were only twenty-one. [I want to say "only" - pshaw. Pretending that you can't do things {save those legally prohibited of course, but most people do those anyways} due to age is somewhat silly. It's just that most of the time, people aren't as far along as we made ourselves out to be.] Maria came down for a lovely visit yesterday. Monday looks to be a mansion and gardens tour/lazing about, used bookstores, and maybe even a state park. I want to get people together and go fishing. Maybe we can even rent out the pontoon boat at the one near-ish state park for the day, which would be around $6 a person if we filled it I think. Add in fishing licenses, poles, bait, and refreshments, and I guess that's not too cheap, but the guys I've mentioned it to so far seem pretty enthused about it. I for one think it is worth it. I just need to take the lead and muster everyone to get organized on it. I'll keep you posted. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
